Screen House Update

Today I thought I'd give a little update on the Screen House we are building on our 40 acres "up north".  My husband has been going up north every weekend this fall, trying to get it finished before the weather turns cold.  He and I have also gone up last Wednesday and after we got the kiddos off to school, we went up again today.

Here is the progress we've made so far.  The sheet rock is up, taped and painted behind the bathtub and the bathtub is now anchored to the wall.  The inside trim for the bathroom window is in.
The bathroom walls are in and ready for sheetrock.
The ceiling is sheetrocked and taped.  The attic access has been cut.
The kitchen area has been sheetrocked and taped.  The inside trim for the window is in.
The main wall of windows is sheetrocked and partially taped.
Side walls of windows are sheetrocked and taped.

An outlet box was added to the outside of the building so we can put the generator out into the woods and hook it up to the Screen House.  We will only use this if we have a necessity for heavy duty power (power tools, a TV, a mini refrigerator).

Power for a radio, ceiling fan, overhead lights and a lamp comes from a solar panel attached to the roof.
The solar power is then connected inside the building.  Right now, it is just sitting on the floor.  Eventually it will have its own space.  We have outlets throughout so we can charge phones and Kindles, run my daughter's portable DVD player and plug in a few lamps.

Today, the goal was to get all of the trim measured, cut and varnished for the big windows.  My husband's job was to measure and cut the trim.
My job was to varnish all of the trim.  As you can see - it was a beautiful day to be working outside!

This is one of the big windows with the newly installed inside wood trim.
It wasn't all work today.  It was just too nice of day to spend inside.  We took a walk back into the woods to our cabin spot.  This is an area that we have cleared of trees that will eventually be where we will build a cabin - complete with running water, a flushable toilet, bedrooms, a kitchen, living area, fireplace and screen porch.  That may be a retirement project!
From the cabin spot, our oldest son, has made a trail that meanders through our 40 acres.  He made most of it by hand.  It was such a beautiful day, we thought we'd take a walk on the trail.

(My oldest is building a wooden bridge over a low spot.  His ingenuity and creativity amazes me.)

I love this time of year and could have stayed for days.  Too bad the kids have school and there is work at home to be done!
