Baked French Toast

Breakfast for supper?  We do it lots of times!  My family's favorite breakfast dinner is omlets but my Baked French Toast comes in a close second.  It needs to be put together at least 6 hours before you  bake it so you can make it the night before or in the morning for a super simple supper.  Here's how it's done.

Melt together a stick of butter, a cup of brown sugar and 2 Tablespoons of dark corn syrup.

When the sugar is completely dissolved, pour the mixture into a 9 x 13 inch glass baking pan.
Slice a loaf of French bread in 1/2 inch slices and press the slices into the pan.
Next, mix together 1 1/2 cup of milk,
5 eggs,
2 teaspoons of vanilla,
and 1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg.
Pour this mixture over the top of the bread.  Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours.

Bake, covered, in a 375 degree oven for about 1/2 an hour.  Take the foil off and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes - until lightly browned.
Serve by inverting the slices onto a plate.
Serve with maple syrup, jam or sliced fruit and of course a side of bacon!
