Midsommer Celebration at the ASI

Before the heavy rain came today, I got to enjoy the Midsommar Celebration at the American Swedish Institute with my good friend Wendy and her teenage daughter.  This is a yearly celebration with lots of food, dancing, music, tours of the ASI, a market, craft projects and they even had a mini-golf course!

One of the first exhibits that we visited was glass blowing (there was also a booth with beautiful fused glass pieces).
We ate pickled herring and potatoes - yes Mom, I even liked it!!
We listened to some Swedish singers.
We made Midsommer magnets.

And my favorite activity was making a flower head-wreath.  We got to pick 6 flowers and then use as much greenery as we wanted.  We wired the flowers and greenery to a string, then tied the ends of the string together.

It was fun to wear the head-wreath and breathe in the sweet scent of flowers all afternoon!
I'm so glad we got to take in all of the activities before the downpour!  I am going to mark it on my calendar for next year.  Here is the link to the American Swedish Institute for information on the Institute and all of the activities and classes they offer there.  www.asimn.org
