Felted Flowers by Grandma & Hannah

My mom is always teaching my daughter new crafts.  Hannah in turn, makes them her own by adding beads, making it bigger or smaller, turning them into accessories, modifying the instructions to accommodate an extra twist......  Both of them are so creative it makes me smile watching them with their heads bent together over a new project.

This weekend, my mom showed Hannah how to make felt flowers.  We now have felt flowers of all different colors - as hair clips.

Here is how to make a felt  flower.  The first step is to cut 6 circles.  The circle size is dependent upon big you want your flower to be.  Hannah's circles are about 1 1/2 inches.

"It's time to fire up the glue gun" as Hannah says and begin folding and gluing.  The first step is to fold the circle in half.

The next step is to fold it half again.  This time add a dab of hot glue to hold the fold.

Squeeze to get the glue to adhere to both sides then "fluff" the petals. Repeat these steps for 5 of the circles.

The next step is to glue 4 petals to the remaining circle.  Add a dab of glue to the bottom of a petal and press it on the circle.  Repeat this step for 4 petals.

The last step is to put a big dab of glue in the center of the 4 petals and press in your remaining petal.

To make this one different, Hannah wanted to add beads.  We used craft glue and marble beads.

I used a toothpick and put glue on the edge of each petal then dipped the petal in the marble beads.

Repeat until all of the petal edges are covered with beads.

Can't wait to add sequins and glitter, buttons and ribbons to bigger and smaller felt flowers!  I'm sure Hannah will come up with some more decorative ideas!
