My daughter wanted to make "Fairies in a Jar" tonight and I who was I to say "NO". A quick trip to Walmart for some glow sticks priced at $.97 were the only extra supplies we needed.
We already had a glass jar. (Any clean glass jar with a lid will work. Think recycle!)
We also had some glitter in our art box that we decided to use.
The first step is to bend the glow sticks to get them to glow.
Cut the end of the glow stick.
Then shake the stick inside of the jar.
Pour a bit of glitter into the palm of your hand and sprinkle it into the jar.
Put the lid on the jar and give it a good shake.
Here's what it looks like in the light and dark.
My daughter first made these at a friend's birthday party. I can just envision a driveway, sidewalk, deck or patio lined with these jars for an evening summer party. She put this one on the head board of her big brother's room as a surprise when he comes home tonight!
